|The Post Collection evolved out of
Whitney Boin's interest in the concept of suspension and desire to incorporate the shape
of faceted stones into the design of simple, yet elegant, jewelry. His design is a pure
and timeless form, the bezel set stone suspended between two posts which has the perceived
effect of enhancing the size of the stone while it appears to float above the band. The
effect is truly magical.
As a child, Whitney Boin was surrounded by artists and crafts people. After all, his parents operated an Arts & Crafts store in New York, and young Whitney grew up participating in the basement classes in metalworking and other crafts. Understandably, he chose the Rochester Institute of Technology's School for American Craftsmen for his college education.
After several years work at a jeweler's bench among 27 other jewelers-in-training, he began working for a collection of small retail shops that agreed to carry his original designs. Eventually, he won a loyal clientele, and by 1978, had won the Diamond Award for a necklace design. That same year, he opened his studio in NoHo and began to create collections that truly reflected his own creative philosophies and innate design sense. Notable Whitney Boin collections over the years were The Ridge Collection which garnered him the Designer of the Year award at the 1982 JA Show, and The Wrap Collection which earned the Designs of Distinction award in 1989.
His latest and greatest collection is The Post Collection, which was introduced in 1986, but remained in prototype for many years to see if it could compete with more conventional settings. The original concept was his hallmark ring design, a masterpiece of simple harmony and sophistication, executed in 18k gold or platinum in a variety of finishes. The design can accommodate stones of almost any shape without losing its inherent elegance or character. The collection has since expanded into earrings, necklaces, bracelets and bridal sets with channel-set bands.
Whitney Boin imbues his work with a sense of endurance, strength and integrity, in addition to the unparalleled beauty and simplicity of his designs. And his collections are widely regarded as new classics.
