| In 1764, King George III favor fell upon a novice clockmaker in London named John
Arnold. The young John Arnold, however, shunned the honors of the court, preferring
instead to search for the perfect marine timekeeper that would also determine the
longitude at sea. Arnold's maritime endeavors led him to some astonishing horological
discoveries relating to springs of pocket watches. As a result, he also produced the first
pocket chronometer. When Arnold & Son was formed in 1787, the company's watches equipped the ships of His British Majesty, before the watchmakers sailed into the design and manufacturer of wristwatches. The dream of perfection pursued by the British dynasty is accessible today. Combining precision, innovation and royal stoicism, the collection of Arnold & Son watches represent the epitome of British efficiency and discretion. |
